Oven Ready, works for Lodge, too!
This stainless steel knob allows for you to put it in the oven beyond 350 degrees; it works for Lodge Dutch Ovens, too. A must have, especially if baking no-kneed bread (look for the recipe on New York Time's "The Minimalist.").
No need to buy this
Call Le Creuset customer service and they will send you a replacement knob free of charge. If you break the oven itself, they will let you buy a new one at a 75% discount after sending the broken one to them. If the breakage is determined to be caused by manufacturer defect, they will replace the oven free of charge.
If you prefer the stainless knob, you can buy that, but be aware that it won't be cool to the touch like the phenolic one.
screwy part
I think this is a great product. Finally a knob that can go up to 500 degrees. It's true that Le Creuset should be selling there products with a better knob, such as this one. It's true as well the screw it comes with is entirely way to small, but using the screw it normally is with works just fine, no need to go and buy a new screw unless you don't have the original any more. Really I have no complaints its what it's meant for.
Williams-Sonoma now sells this online, which I noticed the other day and wish I'd bought through them just b/c I have an employee discount, but that's not a bad thing. Amazon still is awesome.
I have mentioned this to tons of people, so it's a good thing.
Screw fit perfectly
I purchased a LeCrueset 5.5 Dutch/French oven at TJ Maxx for a deep discount since it was a second and also missing the original black knob. When searching for a new knob I found that the stainless replacement is offered and preferred due to it's ability to endure high temps. After reading the reviews and problems others have had with the screw size I was nervous it wouldn't work since I didn't have the original screw or knob, however, it worked PERFECTLY for me. Don't know if they corrected the problem, but I'm very happy with this purchase.
The knob does get hot though on the stove top, not sure if the original black handle does also.
It Works!!!!
Well, I really didn't have enough money to spend on a LC dutch oven but was able to purchase a Martha Stewart enameled dutch oven with some gift cards. Fortunately, the stainless steel knob fit perfectly on the MS enameled dutch oven lid. While it doesn't make any sense to me why any enameled dutch oven manufacturer doesn't include stainless steel knobs, this is a suitable fix.
